'Spider-Man' director Sam Raimi was recently hired to direct another installment of the franchise that made him great, and possible helm parts 4 and 5 of the series at the same time.
This week the director talked about his plans and the various rumors surrounding the films.
"It would be a real endurance test, probably only Peter Jackson knows how hard something like that would be," Raimi told MTV Splash Page about the prospect of back-to-back sequels. "If Tobey and me, and all the producers, like the story for two pictures and Amy wanted to do it, then we would do it. It just hasn’t been written yet."
Tobey Maguire has also been locked to return to the role of Peter Parker. Raimi said he'd love to bring Kirsten Dunst back and can't imagine doing a sequel without her, a vague statement that makes it seem as if the actress has not yet been signed for the sequels. He also hinted that James Franco may return, even though his Harry Osborn character was killed off in the most recent film. Guys like Cliff Robertson and Willem Dafoe have gotten steady work in spite of having died in the first movie.
Raimi also talked about the Dylan Baker, who has been a bit of an elephant in the room for parts 2 and 3. Baker plays Dr. Curt Conners, who fans know well transforms into the classic villain The Lizard at some point. Will Spidey's scaly and tragic foil finally appear?
"He’s a great actor, and I think one day The Lizard’s story will be told," Raimi told MTV, still holding his cards close to the vest. "I don’t know if it will be this one or not. I just don’t know. I’m definitely hoping to work with Dylan in the picture. I just don’t know who the villain is yet."
Raimi points to March 2010 as the production start for 'Spider-Man 4'.
