Harry Potter, Broadway producers battle for Daniel Radcliffe

Actor Daniel Radcliffe's commitment to appear in a Broadway show has clashed with the premiere of the final Harry Potter, leaving producers of the two shows to battle over him.

Radcliffe, 21, had committed to appear in the revival of 'How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' at the Hirschfeld Theatre, which started previews on February 26 and runs until at least November 6.

But Warner Bros. chiefs were furious that his Broadway deal meant he might not be available to promote 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2', to be launched with a lavish premiere at London's Trafalgar Square on July 7.

In tense negotiations, 'How To Succeed' producers refused to release Radcliffe for the days when Warner needed him -- forcing the studio to buy out the whole theatre for the nights he'd have to miss.

"Warner Bros. is furious that Radcliffe committed to Broadway when he should be promoting 'Harry Potter'," the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

"This is the final film, so it's a big deal. A grand world premiere is being planned as well as a US premiere and a press tour.

"They absolutely couldn't do it without their big star. But the theatre producers dug their heels in and said they wouldn't release Radcliffe unless Warner bought out the entire theatre for the nights they need him.

"Studio bosses are furious, but they have no choice but to pay up for five nights costing over 500,000 dollars," the source stated.

A Telecharge sales agent said that while tickets are being sold up to November 6, tickets for July 5 and 6 have "not been released", although they haven't yet been cancelled. Tickets for July 9 are currently on sale.

"Everything is fine, Dan is promoting the film and is happy to do so. With all productions there are scheduling issues but everything has all been worked out," Radcliffe's rep said.

"Warner Bros. is very supportive of Dan, and there is no issue," the rep added.

Topless kiss with Daniel was awkward

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and his co-star Emma Watson have different opinions about their recent on-screen kiss.

While Radcliffe said it was 'vigorous and enjoyable', Watson found the experience 'awkward'.

The actress has admitted it was made tricky after producers told her at the last minute the snog was to be topless.

"I forgot how full-on it was until I saw the movie, and I was like, ''Blimey, where did that come from?'' It was really full-on," the Sun quoted her as saying.

"It was only the day before that they said, ''Oh, by the way, we hope it's all right, but we want you to be topless, and we're going to cover you in silver paint''.

"It was awkward enough as it was without the silver paint and the strapless bra, but whatever.

"It was like some weird social experiment," she said.

However, she added: "He is a good kisser. I can definitely vouch for that."

Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter, Always Forever?

Daniel Radcliffe had confessed that he might forever be recognized as the character of the wizard boy in Harry Potter movies. When we talked to him during the parade, Radcliffe admitted that it might be difficult for his avid fans to allow him to accept new roles while the Harry Potter series is coming to an end.

“I think to a certain extent it’s true that Harry will stick to me,” Radcliffe said. “I think in a lot of people’s minds I will always be him. It’s rather like the mafia, I guess. Once you’re in, you never get out.” The actor continued: “I don’t think I’m being typecast so far. But I would never be anything but proud to be associated with this film series forever.”

Radcliffe also explained that working with the same crew over a 10-year period helped him to discover his “passion” for acting. He said that he had learned several things while working with the people on set. For example are the immense passion about the film industry and a work ethic that he might not have had otherwise.

However, Radcliffe had also revealed that J.K. Rowling talked to him to say that she would not be composing Harry Potter books to any further extent. Latest comments from the author have headed to assumptions that there might be upcoming books about the boy wizard.

Deathly Hallows' will shake people up: Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe has said that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will "shake some people up".

The 21-year-old actor, who recently finished filming the final two movies of the wizard film franchise, admits he believes scenes where his titular character finds himself close to death after being beaten up by his arch-nemesis Voldemort will be difficult for some fans to watch, reports contactmusic.com.

"Voldemort does absolutely kick six bells out of me, and that's what makes it effective, the fact that Harry's a kid (and) having beaten out of him. If it's Voldemort killing an adult - well, he does that loads in the films," said Radcliffe.

"To see him brutalising and desperately trying to kill a 17-year-old boy is hopefully going to shake some people up," he added.
