Delhi Is Not Safe For Women, Says Gul Panag

Actress Gul Panag, who is presently in Delhi to attend the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2010 experienced a very unpleasant turn of events which she shared with the media and her fans.

It is not unknown that the actress has always been a fitness freak and it was primarily for this reason that she decided to be a part of the Half Marathon this year. Unfortunately, Gul Panag was very disappointed with the behavior of some Delhi boys and men during a prominent part of the run which started at the Nehru Stadium in the city. She was reportedly manhandled in the course of the marathon. However, the actress also said that she was not surprised considering that the city in question was Delhi.

An extremely angry and disappointed Gul Panag poured her vent out to the media saying that though Delhi has improved over the years in terms of infrastructure, the nature of the people living in the city refuse to change for the better. The actress was touched in inappropriate parts of her body by the Delhi men who passed her during an unexpected stampede that occurred during the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon.

The actress' statements are a reflection of a recent survey in which it was reported that more than 70 percent of women in Delhi feel unsafe moving out alone in the city's streets. In fact, it has become a norm that Delhi women have to live a fearful daily life, physical abuse has become so rampant in Delhi that women have also stopped complaining in most cases. The phenomenon is a prominent factor not only in the streets of Delhi, but also in the city's workplaces. Gul Panag was also born and had spent her growing up years in Delhi.

Gul Panag Smoking herbal cigarettes

Gul Panag had a tough time shooting for Prakash Jha’s forthcoming venture Turning 30, being directed by his assistant Alankrita Shrivastava. The film is about the trials and tribulations of a woman turning 30. And the character required Gul to smoke in the film.Gul is one person who is absolutely anti-smoking. She can’t bear the smell of cigarette smoke. Lighting up a cigarette was a real challenge for the ex-Miss India.
Assistants on the film claim they had to spend a lot of energy and effort rolling special herbal cigarettes for her. In fact one assistant was entirely devoted to doing just that. The director tried to cajole Gul into smoking real cigarettes, but Gul was adamant and stuck to her guns. When asked Gul, she says, “I’m against smoking… but it was important for the character to smoke so I had to. However, I smoked only herbal cigarettes.”The film is a young urban love story and woman-centric film. Also it is the first non-political story by Prakash Jha,” So Gul is high on principles rather than cigarettes

Gul Panag falls out with debut filmmaker

Gul Panag is reported to have fallen out with the director of her new film.

The actress is said to be annoyed with Turning 30 helmer Alankrita Shrivastava after a hard disk crashed containing the entire dubbing track of the movie.

She was asked to dub for the project again, but Shrivastava was allegedly unhappy with the redone work, reports Mumbai Mirror.

Panag said: "Alankrita is very particular about what she wants. It's hard work to get it right. But we're both totally committed to doing our best for the film."

The star later posted from her Twitter page: "Voice is gone. Too much screaming and shooting. God be with me if any redub comes up in the final stages of Turning 30 post production."

Meanwhile, the debut filmmaker denied the rumour that she and Panag had argued, saying: "That's rubbish. Gul is a very committed actor. She has always co-operated with me. We did have to re-dub the film. All the actors had to. And she has done a terrific job. There's no question of a fall-out."
