Mischa Barton was scared of men

Actress Mischa Barton has revealed that as a teenager she used to be nervous around men.

"I hadn't had sex ever. I was a virgin. I was a very late bloomer and I was terrified of men," contactmusic.com quoted Barton as saying.

"I was in no rush to kiss a boy and I was in no rush to get a boyfriend because once you go down that road you don't go back," she added.

But now the 24-year-old actress is happy and content in her relationship with 31-year-old Ali.

"He's lovely and he's a genius. He can do anything. He can do country, rock, whatever, but most of what he does has been electronica," she added.

Mischa Barton to quit TV

Troubled actress Mischa Barton has decided to quit TV after the cancellation of her latest small-screen series "The Beautiful Life" because she wants to focus on "more serious roles".

The 23-year-old rose to fame starring in teen show "The O.C." and signed on to Ashton Kutcher's modelling drama "The Beautiful Life" earlier this year which was scrapped due to poor ratings after just two episodes. Barton is now reconsidering her acting future and realises the small screen might not be for her, reports People . "I think I need to back away from the whole TV approach. That whole world of network television, probably isn't, for me, a good idea now. I need to start reading for more serious roles," she said. Barton insists she will take her time to decide her next project. "It's too early to tell yet. I'm passing on all the (early) offers, because that's not the stuff you want to do. I want to go fight for interesting things and look for something that's going to be interesting for me... as a role," she said. "(I'm) reading scripts and enjoying living in New York. Now that I'm not doing the TV show, I've got lots of time to work out," she added.

Mischa doesn't know if she had breakdown

Mischa Barton "doesn't know" if she had a nervous breakdown.

The former The OC actress - who was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last month - has blamed the incident on an operation to remove wisdom teeth which went wrong.

She said: "I don't know if it was an official breakdown. I don't know. I had a friend who had a quasi-nervous breakdown, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. I'm not sure I'm capable of a full-on nervous breakdown, but it was pretty bad. It didn't last that long.

It was more about the pain. I have a newfound respect for people who have chronic pain.

"I went through a terrible surgery - a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I've never had surgery before - it all went wrong. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show - it was hell."

The 23-year-old star also believes her hectic work schedule and the pressure of having to starting shooting her new TV show 'The Beautiful Life' - in which she plays a model - contributed to her hospitalisation.

She added to Time Out New York magazine: "Before the show started, I was travelling abroad for contract stuff. I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once.

"The show, travel and then this fairly routine surgery that went wrong - it's still just healing. But I had to get through it without proper painkillers because I couldn't take those during work. So it's been a nightmare."

Mischa says she was "down in the dumps" prior to entering hospital but insists she is now over the experience and feels totally in charge of her life again.

She also revealed it was her mother Nuala who put her in the hospital, but insists it is not that big a deal.

Mischa said: "The funny thing is, if all this happened in New York no one would care."

Barton, whose recent mental health has been a matter of concern, was all smiles and vitality as she attended the shindig for the I (Heart) Ronson clothing line put out by DJ Samantha Ronson and her sister Charlotte. Barton, who jumped straight from psychiatric treatment into work in New York on The Beautiful Life, arrived at the Ronson do with a pal, actress Ashley Madekwe. The pair are co-stars in the Ashton Kutcher-produced story of models trying to make it in New York. Barton's quick return to work had some friends concerned. One said: "It's only been a matter of days since she was released from the hospital, and I think she definitely wasn't there long enough. She needs to be very cautious - she's at a very big risk." But for now Barton appears to be getting by with the help of her friends.

Mischa Barton is said to have recently collapsed at her Los Angeles home because she had allegedly snorted cocaine three days in a row.

The 23-year-old actress remained in an involuntary psychiatric hold after reportedly suffering a meltdown. Pals of the former O.C star informed police amid fears she would kill herself after three days of hard partying.

"She's in very bad shape. She's running out of money and can't find love, so now she is looking for a good time to escape her misery. She is on a downward spiral. She is a mess. She is a suicidal, uninsurable mess," the Daily Express quoted a friend as telling the New York Post.
