Jodie Foster Stands Up for Mel Gibson

He’s one of the most hated men in Hollywood these days, thanks to recordings of drunken violent rants and his reputation as a woman beater, but Mel Gibson has an ally in Jodie Foster.

The “Silence of the Lambs” actress seems to be able to look past all of Gibson’s faults to see what she calls “a brilliant man, a beautiful talent, and a loyal, loyal friend.”


Foster told press, “From the moment I met him, there was such a connection that I knew we would be friends for the rest of my life.”

Jodie directed and costarred with Mel in “The Beaver.” “We work exactly in the same way: No bulls**t. We’ve had so many conversations about the topics the film explores.”

Gibson’s personal struggles were the very reason Jodie cast him in the role. “I knew he could relate so much to Walter’s struggles that there was no way he would play it as a comedy. That Mel’s character be dramatically consumed in this internal struggle was very important to me.”

After over four decades as an actress, Jodie Foster says that she’s ready to move on try something new. The two-time Oscar winner shared with The Hollywood Reporter:

I’ve reached that point where I don’t want to act very much anymore. I am much more interested in holding off on acting, after 45 years as an actor. It’s a long period of time to do the same thing.”

Jodie play the role of both director and actress on her new movie ‘The Beaver” and shared that she plans to direct again – a science fiction project this time. she shared a little bit about the new endeavor:

“There’s a family element to it, but it’s much more a genre movie. I’d like to do that because that’s a world I live in as an actor but I’ve never really gone to as a director. It’s not anywhere close to being ready. (I don’t write), so that always puts me at the mercy of some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me.”

Jodie Foster has always been very choosy about her roles and has spaced them out to about one per year over the last decade or so. It’ll be a great loss if she does decide to quit “for good”. I’m sure she’ll do amazing work in the director’s chair, (she’s already directed 4 things) but she’ll be sorely missed in FRONT of the camera.

“The Beaver” Premieres at South By Southwest Festival

It’s been a long time coming, and finally yesterday (March 16) “The Beaver” saw the light of day thanks to the South By Southwest Festival.

Director/actress Jodie Foster showed up at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas to promote the flick, looking cute in a tan jacket, black skirt and black heels.

Meanwhile, actor Mel Gibson was far away in Los Angeles as he turned himself in for booking at the El Segundo Police Department following his “no contest” plea in his domestic abuse case with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

Additionally, “The Beaver” has continued to push forward with the release of three new trailers to entice potential moviegoers- “Read the Card,” “Mess and Amazing,” and “This is a Joke.”

Jodie Foster almost got indicted today for reportedly "pushing and shoving" a 17 year old boy. But "almost" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, so this incident didn't go any further than a little legal action that was dismissed anyway.

A few weeks ago, the star of Flightplan was walking around with her kids when the accuser got in front of her and started snapping photo after photo.

Despite Jodie Foster asking him to stop, he continued to, so the actress ended up indeed pushing him aside. The guy's father filed a police report, but today the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office decided not to let the case go any further and closed it for good.

Jodie Foster's camp issued a communiqué saying that "the man was a professional pap, possessing a large camera and telephoto lens", which definitely changes things.

Jodie Foster denies teen's attack claims

Jodie Foster has reportedly denied the accusation that she attacked a teenager outside a shopping mall, branding it "fabricated".

It had been alleged that the actress had an altercation with the 17-year-old at The Grove in Los Angeles on May 29 while she was with her children.

Speaking to People, her representative claimed that the alleged victim was "most definitely a professional paparazzo" and had been trailing the star - who asked him to stop - and her family.

"He had a large camera bag and 1000mm telephoto lens. He tailed Jodie and followed her all the way from the movie theatre to the valet," said the spokesperson.

"He crowded her and her two young children and took photos of them the whole time...This guy's behaviour was completely inappropriate and the police report is a fabrication of the incident."

The teenager's father had claimed that his son was a fan of Foster and had taken a photograph after spotting her at the mall. He alleged that Foster was unhappy about having her picture taken, although his son had apologised to her.

Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster is reportedly "devastated" after being dumped by her lesbian lover Cindy Mort.

Mort reportedly walked out of the couple's LA home following a series of heated rows. She is said to have rekindled her romance with former girlfriend Amanda Demme, leaving Foster "miserable", Daily Mail reported.

Foster, 46, met the writer/producer on the set of The Brave One in 2006. The couple started living together following Foster's split from long term partner, producer Cydney Bernard.

The Silence of the Lambs actress remained tight-lipped about her sexuality for many years and decided to come out of closet in 2007 when she publicly acknowledged her 15-year relationship with Bernard during an award ceremony.

She called Bernard "my beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through the rotten and the bliss" while accepting the award.

However, the couple, who have two children together through IVF, split later that year.

Foster, who won Best Actress Oscar awards for her role as a rape victim in the 1989 film The Accused and as a FBI trainee in the 1991 movie The Silence of the Lambs, is famous for her reclusive nature and refuses to employ household staff for fear that they would leak details of her home life to the media.
